Our brand new program is designed with a simple idea in mind: creating a vibrant forum for contemporary artists working with media. In the past artist’s work was often formally defined by their medium of choice: installation artist, filmmaker, video artist, new media artist etc. It seems that the omnipresence of the Internet and various social apps rendered those medium based distinctions obsolete, and introduced (or re-introduced) the simple idea of artist as content creator. IMAP is about making work cross platforms, cross genre and often in multiple output formats. IMAP is about understanding the past of media arts and bravely embracing the technologies to come. IMAP is very much about fruitful, critical conversation. We would like to see film, video, animation, computer centered work, Internet and Post-Internet art come together in a nurturing environment, with facilities and instruction available in all fields. We hope you take a look the IMAP faculty, distinguished list of visiting artist and speakers, attractive location in metropolitan NYC area and the beautiful NJCU campus. It is exciting to start a new thing!
